Culpeper County Public Schools is proud to announce that Eastern View High School (EVHS) Class of 2026 graduate Cailin Rendell has been named the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 4 Softball Player of the Year, becoming the first student-athlete in Eastern View High School history to earn a VHSL State Player of the Year honor in any sport.

Rendell capped off one of the most dominant pitching seasons in Virginia high school softball history in 2026. In 124 innings of work, she posted an outstanding 18-2 record with a remarkable 0.226 earned run average, allowing just four earned runs all season. She struck out 272 batters, finishing her career with 798 strikeouts, while allowing only 39 hits and holding opposing hitters to a .089 batting average. She also recorded an impressive 0.484 WHIP, averaged 13.6 strikeouts per game, and threw strikes at a 71.1% rate.

Her remarkable season included three perfect games, one no-hitter, four additional one-hit performances, and 11 shutouts, establishing her as one of the premier pitchers in Virginia.

Rendell also made significant contributions at the plate, batting .383 with 23 hits, 21 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases, while serving as a team captain and leader for the Cyclones.

"Cailin's work ethic, competitive spirit, and commitment to excellence have made her one of the finest student-athletes to ever wear an Eastern View uniform," said Eastern View High School Activities Director Austin Pickett. "This historic recognition is a testament to the countless hours she dedicated to her craft and the leadership she demonstrated on and off the field. We are incredibly proud of everything she has accomplished."

Throughout her career, Rendell rewrote the Eastern View record books, setting 19 school records. During the 2025 season, she earned a place in the VHSL Record Book after recording 25 strikeouts in a single game, one of the greatest pitching performances in state history.

In addition to being named the 2026 VHSL Class 4 Player of the Year, Rendell is a two-time Battlefield District Player of the Year, a two-time Region 4B Player of the Year, and a two-time team captain. She will continue her academic and athletic career at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she has signed to play softball.

"Cailin has left an incredible legacy at Eastern View High School," said head EVHS softball coach Lonnie Myers . "She consistently elevated everyone around her through her leadership, determination, and passion for the game. While her accomplishments speak for themselves, it's the example she set for her teammates and younger players that will have a lasting impact on our program."  He continued, “I have been at Eastern View since it opened in 2008, I coached baseball before I switched to softball, and I have never seen a pitcher do what she has done.  It’s unbelievable.”

Rendell's selection as the VHSL Class 4 Softball Player of the Year marks a milestone achievement for Eastern View High School athletics and highlights the continued success of Culpeper County Public Schools' student-athletes on the statewide stage.
